All services begin with a consultation about your unique situation. Whatever your dog related challenge, I will work with you to develop a motivating and fun program to address your needs.
Training Services:
Are you adopting a new puppy?
Puppies come with their own set of challenges, including needle-sharp teeth and boundless energy. Fortunately, puppies under the age of 13 weeks are wired for learning and socialization. Teaching your new pup the rules of the house from the beginning will build a foundation for a successful and happy life together.
Does your dog have "bad manners"?
All dogs need to know the rules of the house in order to be successful family members. Perhaps you and your dog have a “communication gap”? Most bad manners can be easily addressed with consistent positive training methods. Your dog will learn the polite way to behave in all sorts of situations. Common concerns include:
• walking politely on leash
• greeting people at the door
• meeting people and other dogs on the street
• coming when called
• basic obedience (sit, down, stay/wait)
• housebreaking issues
• inappropriate chewing
• barking
• mouthing and/or nipping
Are you expecting a new baby?
Dogs work best on a routine. A new baby in the house means a whole new routine, which may confuse and upset your dog, motivating him to act out. Prepare your dog for his new little "brother" or "sister" before the big day. We can help you teach your dog the new baby-friendly boundaries, and help him to gradually get accustomed to new sounds, smells and baby gear so that homecoming is as stress-free as possible for both you and your dog.
Pre and Post-Adoption Consultations
Start off on the right paw with your new family member! A pre-adoption consultation will help you choose the best match for your family, and help you set up a dog-friendly and dog-proof home. A post-adoption consultation will answer your questions about nutrition, housebreaking, crate training, and the basics of positive reinforcement training.
Behavioral Consultation Services:
Past negative experiences can cause ongoing anxieties and fears in our dogs. With the help of a scientific, step-by-step process of counter-conditioning and/or desensitization, you can help your dog overcome her fears and inappropriate behaviors.
Some common behavior issues are:
• incessant barking, digging or chewing
• fear towards other dogs or strangers
• aggression towards other dogs or strangers
• inappropriate urination
• separation/isolation distress
• fear of grooming procedures or vet visits
• reactivity to sudden changes in environment
When you book a behavioral consultation, the first step is to assess the problem. You will be asked to fill out a detailed questionnaire ahead of time with your dog's history and pertinent details. It is absolutely critical to understand the history of your dog's behavior and what you have been doing about it. Using this as a springboard, I will ask you many questions about your dog, your family and your living situation. The answers to these questions help in the development of an effective and humane behavior modification plan.
